Matiere Premiere's Radical Rose Extrait opens with pepper and saffron, a dry, spicy edge that frames the rose from the first spray rather than sweetening it.
May rose and immortelle form the heart. The immortelle adds a warm, hay-like depth that makes the rose darker and less dewy than a classic soliflore. Aurélien Guichard composed the original Radical Rose for Matiere Premiere in 2020; this 2024 Extrait de Parfum is the richer, more concentrated version, in the brand's square bottle of smoked glass with a black cap.
Patchouli and Spanish labdanum carry the base: earthy, resinous and long on the skin. Fragrantica voters rank winter and autumn far ahead of spring, with summer rarely chosen, and night well ahead of day, so it suits cold evenings, dinners and occasions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does Matiere Premiere Radical Rose Extrait smell like?
Matiere Premiere Radical Rose Extrait is a spiced rose over patchouli, an Extrait de Parfum launched in 2024 as the richer version of the 2020 Radical Rose. Pepper and saffron open it, a dry, spicy edge that frames the rose rather than sweetening it. May rose and immortelle form the heart, the immortelle adding a warm, hay-like depth, and patchouli and Spanish labdanum make an earthy, resinous base. On Fragrantica its strongest accords are warm spicy, rose and patchouli.
How long does Radical Rose Extrait last, and how strong is the projection?
Radical Rose Extrait is an Extrait de Parfum, the most concentrated version of Radical Rose, and its base of patchouli and Spanish labdanum is the part that lasts: earthy and resinous, it holds long after the pepper and saffron have softened. The spice is most noticeable at first; the rose and labdanum then settle into a darker, closer trail. One or two sprays are enough. Skin, application and weather all change wear time and projection, and a decant lets you test Radical Rose Extrait over several wears.
When and where should I wear Radical Rose Extrait?
Fragrantica voters rank winter and autumn first, spring a distant third and summer last, and choose night far more often than day. The spice, patchouli and resins suit cold weather, evenings, dinners and formal occasions; in summer heat it can feel heavy.
Is Radical Rose Extrait for men or women?
Fragnatium lists Radical Rose Extrait under Unisex; Matiere Premiere presents its fragrances without a gender, and Fragrantica lists it for women and men. A rose on its own would read feminine, but pepper, saffron, patchouli and labdanum make it dry and dark rather than dewy, which is why it sits between the two. It is worn by women who want a darker rose and by men who like rose-and-patchouli scents.
Are Fragnatium's Radical Rose Extrait decants authentic?
Yes. Fragnatium fills Matiere Premiere Radical Rose Extrait decants from an original fragrance bottle purchased from a fragrance retailer. The liquid is transferred into a smaller, labelled atomiser; it is not an imitation or a manufacturer-packaged miniature.
What is a fragrance decant, and why should I try one?
A decant is a measured portion of the original fragrance transferred into a smaller atomiser. Fragnatium offers Matiere Premiere Radical Rose Extrait in 2 ml, 5 ml and 10 ml decants. Choose 2 ml for an initial skin trial, 5 ml for repeat wears, or 10 ml when you already enjoy the scent or want a travel size. You receive the selected decant, not the full-size bottle pictured.
