Louis Vuitton batch codes, explained

Louis Vuitton came late to fragrance — its current range dates from 2016 — and its bottles carry the same four-character reference as the LVMH maisons that have been making perfume for decades. Sharing a shape with Dior and Guerlain means sharing their problem too: the layout is not published, and the decoders that claim to read it disagree about which character is the month.

We do not return a date for Louis Vuitton. Enter a code and we will tell you exactly why, and what to check instead.

Free, no signup, nothing stored. Codes are read in your browser session and never saved against you.

Where Louis Vuitton prints the code

On the base of the bottle and on the box.

What the characters mean

Four alphanumeric characters on the bottle we hold — the same shape as the other LVMH maisons. LVMH does not publish the encoding, and the public decoders contradict one another.

Why we stop there:

Three mutually incompatible decoding schemes are published for LVMH fragrances. One reads the second character as a month letter running A to L; another as A to M with I skipped, which shifts every month from September onward; a third reads the code as a factory letter, a year letter and a day of the year, with no month at all — and contradicts its own year table in its own worked example. Nothing public adjudicates between them, so any date we returned would be a coin toss across a third of the calendar.

Louis Vuitton batch code questions

Does a Louis Vuitton code follow the same format as Dior?

It has the same shape — four characters, a digit, a letter and two digits on the bottle we pour from. That is what you would expect inside one group, and it is also why the same caution applies: no public source can tell you which character is the month, so we will not date a Louis Vuitton bottle any more than a Dior one.

How do I check a Louis Vuitton fragrance is genuine?

Match the code on the bottle against the code on the box, then judge the object: the weight and finish of the glass, the fit of the cap, the evenness of the spray and the precision of the engraving. At this price the channel matters most — the house sells through its own boutiques and website, so a bottle from anywhere else deserves a harder look.

Is a decant a sensible way to try Louis Vuitton?

It is the obvious one. A full bottle costs several times what most designer fragrances do, and the range leans on fine citrus, tea and woody materials that are easier to judge on skin over a day than on a blotter in a boutique.

Same scheme, other houses

These brands sit under LVMH and stamp their bottles the same way, so if you can read one you can read them all.

Try Louis Vuitton before you commit

Checking a batch code is usually a way of asking whether a bottle is worth the money. A Louis Vuitton decant answers that on your own skin, poured from a bottle whose source we log — no marketplace gamble, no full-bottle regret.
