Lancôme has belonged to L'Oréal since 1964, so unlike Valentino or Mugler it has no other owner's codes to untangle: its fragrances carry the group's year letter in third place. We checked it against La Vie Est Belle, Idôle and La Nuit Trésor bottles listed online with a date — among them La Vie Est Belle L'Elixir minis whose printed expiry falls three years after the year their letter gives — and none contradicted it.

What the characters mean
Six or seven characters: two digits for the filling site, a letter standing for the year, then three or four characters we do not read. Minis and travel sprays are often listed with B- in front, as in B-22X66U; the checker reads the code after it.

Why does my Lancôme code start with B-?
Many listings, particularly of minis and travel sprays, write the code with a B- in front of it. The code proper is what follows: B-22X66U reads as 22X66U. Enter it either way and the checker reads the part after the B.
Does a Lancôme code that decodes prove the bottle is real?
No. Fakes exist and often reuse real codes, so a code can raise a flag but never clear a bottle. Box and bottle codes that disagree are a warning sign, not proof. Buying from an authorised retailer is the only check Lancôme itself endorses.
How long does a Lancôme mini keep?
It depends on the line. The La Vie Est Belle L'Elixir minis we have seen listed print an expiry three years on from the year in their code, the Idôle Le Parfum travel sprays five. Either way the date is a guide to when the opening may start to fade rather than a cliff edge: stored cool and dark, an unopened mini usually smells right well beyond it.
