Matière Première batch codes, explained
Matière Première was founded by a perfumer rather than a marketing department, and builds its scents around a single dominant natural material. Its codes open with letters that look very much like the initials of the fragrance — the Falcon Leather bottle we hold begins "FL", the Vanilla Powder Extrait one "VPE". That is a product reference, not a date, and recognising it is not the same as decoding the code.

What the characters mean
Two or three letters that appear to name the fragrance, followed by five digits — FL for Falcon Leather, VPE for Vanilla Powder Extrait.
Why we stop there:
The leading letters appear to identify the fragrance rather than when it was made, and the five digits that follow have no published key. Reading one field of a code does not unlock the rest, and assuming it does is how a partial reading becomes a wrong date.

The first two letters match my fragrance's name — have I decoded it?
You have identified the line, which is genuinely useful for confirming a bottle matches its box. It tells you nothing about when the bottle was filled. Memo Paris codes behave the same way, and it is a good reminder that a field you can read is not necessarily the field you want.
Does a single-material composition age differently?
It ages more visibly. When one natural dominates, any change in that material is the change you smell, rather than being buffered by a crowded accord. Crystal Saffron and the leathers are relatively robust; the brighter florals show their age sooner.
Is this house counterfeited?
We know of no figure for how often, for this house or most others. Either way the usual checks apply — compare the codes on box and bottle, look at the quality of the printing, and prefer a seller who can say where the stock came from.
