Wulóng Chá opens on citrus and a great deal of it — bergamot, orange and mandarin orange together, with litsea cubeba adding a sharp lemongrass edge the others do not have. It is bright to the point of being startling, and for something sold at extrait strength it behaves nothing like one for the first quarter of an hour.
Oolong tea is the heart and the reason the fragrance exists. It is dry and slightly tannic, far closer to actual brewed tea than to the sweetened iced-tea accord most houses reach for, and nutmeg lends a faint warmth without turning it into a spice fragrance. Jorge Lee keeps the citrus running underneath rather than handing over cleanly, so the top and the heart overlap for a long stretch.
Fig and musk close it, the fig soft and green rather than jammy, the musk clean and unobtrusive. Six to eight hours on skin, which is long for something this bright and is the extrait concentration doing its job.
