Vetiver, Leather, Amber
Sultan Vetiver opens on Java vetiver oil with anise cutting across it, and that pairing is what makes the first minutes odd in the good way. Bergamot and pepper sit behind them without softening the entry. The vetiver is rooty and raw from the outset — nearer cut grass over damp ground than the polished, laundered vetivers most houses build.
The heart is where Jorge Lee stacks the other two. Bourbon vetiver is rounder and faintly smoky; Haitian vetiver is the greenest of the three. Neroli lifts the middle briefly and tonka bean begins warming it from underneath. There is no floral heart in any conventional sense — the composition keeps rearranging the same material, which is why it reads as one continuous idea rather than a sequence of movements.
Vetiver, leather and amber close it out, the leather dry and suede-like rather than tarry. Eight hours on skin is normal, with moderate projection through the first two. Fragrantica's voters put it in spring and autumn ahead of winter, and daytime ahead of night — it is one of the few vetivers substantial enough for an office and green enough for a warm afternoon.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Nishane Sultan Vetiver smell like?
Three vetivers, layered. Java vetiver oil opens it alongside anise, bergamot and pepper — rooty and green rather than clean. Bourbon and Haitian vetiver carry the heart with neroli and tonka bean, and it closes on vetiver, leather and amber. The leather is dry and suede-like, so the whole thing stays earthy instead of turning sweet.
How long does Sultan Vetiver last, and how strong is the projection?
It is an Extrait de Parfum and behaves like one: around eight hours on skin, longer on fabric. Projection is moderate rather than loud — noticeable at arm's length for the first two hours, then close to the skin. Vetiver roots and tonka are both tenacious, so the dry-down outlasts the bright anise opening by a wide margin.
When and where should I wear Sultan Vetiver?
Fragrantica's voters put it in autumn and spring ahead of winter, and daytime ahead of night, which matches how it wears. It is green enough for a warm afternoon and substantial enough for an office or a dinner. Summer works too, though the leather and amber base gets heavy above roughly 30°C.
Is Sultan Vetiver for men or women?
Nishane markets it for women and men and Fragrantica lists it the same way. The community leans it masculine — vetiver, leather and anise are read that way by convention more than by anything in the materials. Nothing in the composition is inherently gendered, and the 2 ml is the cheapest way to settle it on your own skin.
Are Fragnatium's Sultan Vetiver decants authentic?
Absolutely. Every Fragnatium decant is filled from a genuine, verified bottle of the original fragrance. We quality-check each portion before it ships to ensure you're experiencing the scent exactly as the perfumer intended. No imitations, no grey-market sourcing — just the real thing.
What is a fragrance decant, and why should I try one?
A decant is a precisely measured portion of an authentic fragrance, transferred into a convenient travel-sized atomiser. It lets you experience luxury perfumes without committing to a full bottle — ideal for exploring your taste, rotating scents, or carrying fragrance on the go. Fragnatium exists to make fine perfumery accessible, one carefully filled atomiser at a time.
