Side Effect is darker: rum and cinnamon up front, tobacco and saffron underneath, and a vanilla dry-down that sits close to the skin rather than filling the room. Angels' Share is the most literal of them, a glass of cognac over praline and candied almond with cinnamon and oak between — sweet, woody and unmistakably alcoholic. Worn back to back, the ladder from designer to niche is easy to hear.

These are all heavy hitters, in different ways. Stronger With You Absolutely, a Parfum, projects strongly for the first couple of hours and then settles into its vanilla and chestnut. Side Effect, an Eau de Parfum, is dense and long-wearing but pulls in close after the opening, so it lingers more than it trails. It is titled For Him because all three are marketed to men and the set was assembled from that end of the catalogue, but nothing in a gourmand is inherently masculine. Cognac, praline and vanilla read as warm rather than gendered, and Angels' Share in particular has a large following among women. If you like sweet, boozy, cold-weather fragrances, the gendering on the box is the least useful thing about it.
