Louis Vuitton Trio – Louis Vuitton Discovery Set

Louis Vuitton fragrances are sold almost nowhere but Louis Vuitton's own boutiques and website, which makes them among the hardest designer bottles to try before buying. All three in this set are the work of the house perfumer, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, and together they run from the brightest scent in the line to one of its darkest.

Imagination is the fresh one: citron, bergamot and Sicilian orange over neroli, ginger and cinnamon, drying down to black tea, ambroxan, guaiac wood and olibanum. Nouveau Monde turns to leather — saffron and black currant over leather, cacao and rose, settling into oud, amberwood, caramel and vanilla. Ombre Nomade is the smokiest: raspberry and saffron over oud, rose and geranium, with birch and incense for smoke and a base of amberwood and benzoin.

What does the Louis Vuitton Trio smell like?

Three Louis Vuitton fragrances by the house perfumer, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, each in a different direction. Imagination (2021) is fresh and luminous — citrus and neroli with ginger and cinnamon, settling into black tea and incense. Nouveau Monde (2018) is a leather fragrance, saffron and black currant over leather, cacao and rose, with oud and caramel underneath. Ombre Nomade (2018) is smoky oud and rose, its raspberry and saffron wrapped in birch and incense over amberwood and benzoin.

How long do they last, and how strong is the projection?

Nouveau Monde and Ombre Nomade are both dense, oud-based fragrances whose bases cling to skin and clothes; one or two sprays is a full dose. Imagination is the lightest of the three and sits closer to the skin, which suits it. Wear time and projection vary with skin, application and weather, so the decants are the way to find out on you.

When and where should I wear them?

Imagination works year-round and anywhere, from the office to a summer evening. Nouveau Monde and Ombre Nomade are cold-weather, evening fragrances: Fragrantica voters put winter and autumn well ahead of spring and summer for both, and night well ahead of day.

Is this set for men or women?

Imagination and Nouveau Monde come from Louis Vuitton's men's line; Ombre Nomade is presented as a shared fragrance and listed for women and men. In practice the two dark ones in particular are worn widely by women too. If you like any of the three, the set works for you.

What is a fragrance decant, and why should I try one?

A decant is a measured portion of a real fragrance, transferred into a travel atomiser: the same juice from the same bottle, just less of it. Louis Vuitton bottles cost several hundred euros each and are rarely on any counter but the brand's own, so a decant is often the only practical way to wear one for a few days before deciding. Three decants cost a fraction of one bottle.
