Initio's Oud for Greatness opens with saffron, nutmeg and lavender: a warm, spiced start with an aromatic lift from the lavender that keeps the first minutes from feeling heavy.
Oud is the heart and the point of the fragrance. Initio presents it as natural oud handled with raw intensity, and it comes through smoky, woody and slightly leathery against the spices. Initio launched it in 2018 in its Black Gold Project line, in the black bottle with gold engraving and the all-seeing eye.
Patchouli and musk make up the base, dry and earthy rather than sweet. Fragrantica voters rank winter and autumn far ahead of spring, with summer last, and night twice as often as day, so it belongs to cold weather, evenings and occasions where a strong oud is welcome.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does Initio Oud for Greatness smell like?
Initio Oud for Greatness is a spiced oud fragrance, an Eau de Parfum launched in 2018. Saffron, nutmeg and lavender open it warm and spiced, the lavender giving an aromatic lift that keeps the first minutes from feeling heavy. Oud is the heart and the point of the fragrance, smoky, woody and slightly leathery against the spices, before a dry, earthy base of patchouli and musk. On Fragrantica its strongest accords are warm spicy, fresh spicy and oud.
How long does Oud for Greatness last, and how strong is the projection?
Oud for Greatness is an Eau de Parfum built on oud and patchouli, both dense materials that cling to skin and clothes, so the dry-down is where most of the wear happens. The lavender and nutmeg give way early, and from then on it is a smoky oud trail that people nearby usually notice. Start with one or two sprays. Skin, application and weather all change wear time and projection, and a decant lets you test Oud for Greatness over several wears.
When and where should I wear Oud for Greatness?
Fragrantica voters rank winter first with autumn close behind, spring a distant third and summer last, and choose night twice as often as day. It suits cold days, evenings, dinners and formal occasions; in summer heat the oud and spices can feel heavy.
Is Oud for Greatness for men or women?
Fragnatium lists Oud for Greatness under Unisex with a male lean. Initio presents all its fragrances as unisex and Fragrantica lists it for women and men, but smoky oud, saffron and dry patchouli, with no sweetness or florals to soften them, give it a masculine profile, and it is most often worn by men. Women who like dark, unsweetened ouds wear it too.
Are Fragnatium's Oud for Greatness decants authentic?
Yes. Fragnatium fills Initio Oud for Greatness decants from an original fragrance bottle purchased from a fragrance retailer. The liquid is transferred into a smaller, labelled atomiser; it is not an imitation or a manufacturer-packaged miniature.
What is a fragrance decant, and why should I try one?
A decant is a measured portion of the original fragrance transferred into a smaller atomiser. Fragnatium offers Initio Oud for Greatness in 2 ml, 5 ml and 10 ml decants. Choose 2 ml for an initial skin trial, 5 ml for repeat wears, or 10 ml when you already enjoy the scent or want a travel size. You receive the selected decant, not the full-size bottle pictured.
