Sultan Vetiver

Three vetivers, layered. Java vetiver oil opens it alongside anise, bergamot and pepper — rooty and green rather than clean. Bourbon and Haitian vetiver carry the heart with neroli and tonka bean, and it closes on vetiver, leather and amber. The leather is dry and suede-like, so the whole thing stays earthy instead of turning sweet.

It is an Extrait de Parfum and behaves like one: around eight hours on skin, longer on fabric. Projection is moderate rather than loud — noticeable at arm's length for the first two hours, then close to the skin. Vetiver roots and tonka are both tenacious, so the dry-down outlasts the bright anise opening by a wide margin.

Fragrantica's voters put it in autumn and spring ahead of winter, and daytime ahead of night, which matches how it wears. It is green enough for a warm afternoon and substantial enough for an office or a dinner. Summer works too, though the leather and amber base gets heavy above roughly 30°C.
