L'Oréal
Yves Saint Laurent batch code checker
Yves Saint Laurent fragrances are produced by L'Oréal, and the third character of the code is a year letter. We can narrow that letter to a few years using two facts nobody can argue with — a bottle cannot be filled before its fragrance launched, and cannot be filled after we put it on sale. We used to give a month as well. We stopped: the only source claiming to know which character carried it turned out to publish formats that do not fit real bottles.

Where Yves Saint Laurent prints the code
Ink-jetted on the base of the bottle and printed on the bottom of the box.
What the characters mean
Six or seven characters — every one we have seen is one or the other. The third is a letter standing for the year; we have not established what the fourth means, and no longer claim it is a month.

YSL codes: a year estimate, without a month claim
Use the Yves Saint Laurent checker for YSL fragrances, including Y, Libre and La Nuit de L’Homme, rather than selecting a brand whose code looks similar. The supported six- or seven-character layout places the year letter in the third position. Our current rule reads a year estimate from the letters we have mapped; it does not assign a month or day. This is our evidence-based interpretation, not a manufacturer-published date key.
If the third letter is outside the reviewed map, the checker leaves it unreadable. For example, 62K201 remains unsupported because K is not mapped. That is a limit of our evidence, not proof of a counterfeit. Enter the full marking without replacing an unfamiliar letter with one that returns a result.
A YSL batch code is not the Paris postcode
The YSL manufacturer address contains 75008, the Paris postcode. That number identifies the address, not a production run. Likewise, the barcode identifies a product rather than dating the particular bottle. Start with the separate marking on the bottle base and the box, and record the fragrance name and concentration alongside it.
Compare the two markings and keep photographs if they differ or are difficult to read. A matching string can be copied and a mismatch needs an explanation from the seller. YSL publishes manufacturer contact details for questions that a year estimate cannot resolve.
Yves Saint Laurent batch code questions
Which company actually makes YSL fragrances?
L'Oréal, under licence — YSL Beauté sits within L'Oréal's luxury division. That is why a YSL code looks nothing like a Dior or Tom Ford one: it comes out of an entirely different production system, shared with other L'Oréal-owned fragrance brands.
How do I check a YSL bottle without a decoder?
Compare the code on the bottle with the code on the box: a difference is a warning sign, not proof, and a match proves nothing, since fakes often reuse real codes. Then judge the physical bottle: the weight of the metal cap, the evenness of the spray, the crispness of the printing, and the fit of the collar. Buying from an authorised retailer remains the only reliable protection.
Can the checker date a YSL batch code?
It can estimate the year for supported six- or seven-character codes using the third character. The mapping is evidence-based and remains unconfirmed by the manufacturer. Unmapped letters stay unreadable, and we do not return a month or day.
Same scheme, other houses
These brands are also made by L'Oréal. A shared maker does not guarantee a shared code layout, so each page describes the codes we have actually seen for that house.

Try a scent on your skin for a few days before you pay for a full bottle. Each decant is poured from a full-size bottle whose source we log.
Try Yves Saint Laurent before you commit
Checking a batch code is usually a way of asking whether a bottle is worth the money. A Yves Saint Laurent decant answers that on your own skin, poured from a bottle whose source we log — no marketplace gamble, no full-bottle regret.
