Puig

Jean Paul Gaultier batch code checker

Jean Paul Gaultier fragrances have been produced by Puig since 2016, and carry Puig's five-digit code. Its first digit is the year — Le Male Elixir Absolu, first sold in January 2025, carries 2024 codes filled in the weeks before — so we read the year, and nothing finer.

You can also enter a printed manufacture date, e.g. MFG: 01/2024. Expiry dates are not production dates.

Free, no signup. We save the submitted brand, code and result to improve this checker. Please enter only the batch code.

Recent production

Well within the range where every fragrance family performs as the perfumer intended.

  • The year is exact: Jean Paul Gaultier has only stamped this scheme since 2016, and just one year in that window ends in this digit.
  • This code gives the year but not the month, so the age above assumes the earliest date in that year. The bottle may be up to eleven months younger than it looks here.
  • We read this house's format, but have not yet re-checked the rule against bottles with a confirmed purchase date. Treat the year as indicative.
  • A batch code dates a bottle. It does not authenticate one — a convincing counterfeit will carry a well-formed code.

We pour from a bottle with this code

The same batch code is on the source bottle behind these decants. That tells you where our decants come from, not when the bottle was filled — the date above is still a reading of the code.

Fragrances from other houses are picked because they share main accords with the best-known Jean Paul Gaultier fragrances. They are different perfumes, not copies.

Where Jean Paul Gaultier prints the code

Stamped on the base of the tin or bottle, and printed on the box.

What the characters mean

Five digits on bottles made since Puig took over in 2016: the last digit of the year, the day of the year, then a fill-line digit (43101 is a 2024 bottle). Older Shiseido-made bottles carry a different code that we do not date.

Jean Paul Gaultier batch code questions

Where is the code on a Le Male bottle?

On the base of the bottle itself, not on the tin. The metal tin these come packaged in usually carries its own printing, so check the glass underneath — and remember the tin and bottle are separable, so a mismatched pair is not automatically sinister on a second-hand purchase.

Le Male Elixir smells stronger than my older bottle — is one of them fake?

Not necessarily. Elixir is a separate, more concentrated release rather than a reformulation of the original, so a genuine difference in strength is expected between them. Comparing across concentrations is one of the commonest reasons people wrongly suspect a bottle.

Do short batch codes mean a house is careless?

No — it means the code is doing a smaller job. A short reference is enough to identify a production run internally, which is all a manufacturer needs it for. Code length reflects the traceability system behind it, not the quality of what is in the bottle.

Same scheme, other houses

These brands sit under Puig and stamp their bottles the same way, so if you can read one you can read them all.

Before you buy a full bottle of Jean Paul Gaultier

Try a scent on your skin for a few days before you pay for a full bottle. Each decant is poured from a full-size bottle whose source we log.

Try Jean Paul Gaultier before you commit

Checking a batch code is usually a way of asking whether a bottle is worth the money. A Jean Paul Gaultier decant answers that on your own skin, poured from a bottle whose source we log — no marketplace gamble, no full-bottle regret.
