Guerlain batch code checker

Guerlain codes need care because its classics span decades and the same four characters can appear on bottles from different eras. Independent photos of recent launches support a cautious year reading, so we list the possible years without choosing the newest. The rule is not manufacturer-confirmed, gives no month, and keeps an older-bottle possibility when the fragrance is not known.

You can also enter a printed manufacture date, e.g. MFG: 01/2024. Expiry dates are not production dates.

Free, no signup. We save the submitted brand, code and result to improve this checker. Please enter only the batch code.

Try Guerlain as a decant first

Fragrances from other houses are picked because they share main accords with the best-known Guerlain fragrances. They are different perfumes, not copies.

Where Guerlain prints the code

On the base of the bottle, and on the box. Guerlain's heavier decorative flacons sometimes carry it on the rear of the label instead.

What the characters mean

On supported recent bottles: a digit, a letter and two digits (4E01). Dated bottle photos support the first digit as a year digit; we report possible years from 2019 onward, including the year before each reading. Older bottles can share this layout and remain possible unless the fragrance launch rules them out. The letter and final digits are not decoded.

Worked example

4E01

reads as 2024, 2023 or before 2019

Guerlain batch code questions

Can you date a modern Guerlain batch code?

We can give indicative years for the digit-letter-two-digit layout seen on recent bottles. Five independent photo sources support the year digit, but do not settle the rollover date, so the year before is possible too. Our evidence covers 2019 onward; an older bottle is still possible when the fragrance launch does not exclude it. Packaging and provenance are needed to distinguish eras, and a readable code does not authenticate a bottle.

Why does the batch year matter more for Guerlain than other houses?

Because Guerlain's classics have long production histories and have been reformulated as materials were restricted or replaced. Shalimar, Habit Rouge and Mitsouko from different decades can smell meaningfully different. For collectors, the batch code is less a freshness check than a way of placing a bottle in the right era.

My vintage Guerlain has no batch code at all — is it fake?

Not necessarily. Systematic batch coding on consumer packaging is relatively recent; genuinely old Guerlain bottles often carry no production code, or only a moulded number in the glass that is a bottle-mould identifier rather than a date. Absence of a code on a clearly vintage flacon is normal.

Where is the code on a Guerlain bee bottle?

Usually on the base, but on the heavier decorative flacons it can be printed on the reverse of the paper label instead of the glass. If the base is clean, check the label edges and the underside of the box before concluding there is no code.

Same scheme, other houses

These brands are also made by LVMH. A shared maker does not guarantee a shared code layout, so each page describes the codes we have actually seen for that house.

Before you buy a full bottle of Guerlain

Try a scent on your skin for a few days before you pay for a full bottle. Each decant is poured from a full-size bottle whose source we log.

Try Guerlain before you commit

Checking a batch code is usually a way of asking whether a bottle is worth the money. A Guerlain decant answers that on your own skin, poured from a bottle whose source we log — no marketplace gamble, no full-bottle regret.
